The Book Report Network, an online company with eight editorial websites including Bookreporter.com --- and a thriving website design/development and Internet marketing business with more than 100 author clients --- is located in New York City. We’re a small, fast-paced office with big company benefits and a dedicated, creative and hard-working staff.

We’re currently looking to fill the following positions:

Advertising/Promotion Assistant - Part-time
Web Designer - Full-time
Marketing/Publicity Intern (unpaid)
Editorial Intern (unpaid)
Design Intern (unpaid)

Advertising/Promotion Assistant - Part-time
Description: The Book Report Network seeks to hire a part-time Advertising/Promotion Assistant.

Tasks will include:

  • Trafficking materials for advertising and promotional features for the Company’s seven editorial websites.
  • Interfacing with clients via phone and e-mail
  • Selecting/notifying contest winners
  • Compiling reader comments
  • Monitoring competition
  • Monitoring traffic
  • Creating reporting
  • Mailings

Requirements:

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Scrupulous attention to detail.
  • Must be comfortable with written communication as well as phone contact.

Computer Skills:

  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher
  • HTML and Drupal CMS a plus

Hours:

  • Five hours a day; five days a week.

Web Designer - Full-time
Description: We are looking for a full-time web designer to join our AuthorsOnTheWeb division to assist the Website Design + Development department with in-house and client websites in our New York City office. We are looking candidates who are proactive, web-savvy, and detail oriented with strong interpersonal skills. Applicants should have experience in the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver, and should have the ability to hand code HTML and CSS efficiently. This position could become full-time.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with a team of producers and designers to update existing websites as well as create dynamic, content-driven websites, and other interactive products
  • Design house ads (banner, skyscraper, multi-frame)
  • Create concepts for small art pieces for marketing/ad campaigns
  • Assist Design Director as needed
  • Able to work both independently to meet aggressive deadlines, and collaboratively in a team-based production environment

Skills:

  • 3-5 years experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver
  • Able to hand code HTML and CSS efficiently
  • Must be highly innovative, organized, motivated and possess strong drawing and computer skills
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

In addition, the ideal candidate will:

  • Be able to interface with Design/Project Manager for design specifications
  • Have a passion for artwork and incorporating it on the web
  • Be able to quickly shift priorities and work on multiple projects at the same time
